Hutton Reserve Chardonnay 2024

Power, poise, and persistence, that's what you're getting in this deluxe chardonnay from a vintage that produced some quite marvelous examples of this variety from Margaret River. The nose has a slightly gun flint-like character, with a faint struck match influence. Notes of butterscotch and honeycomb, deep stone fruit, cashew, and a chalky acidity combine on a deeply intense and powerfully penetrating palate. There's plenty of grunt in this wine, but it delivers with focus and refinement, and great control.

Ray Jordan Score: 96/100 Cellar: 10 years

Pale straw with flashes of green. The aromatics immediately evoke the coast on a mild summer’s day; lemon zest, fresh citrus and creamy lemon curd lifted by a delicate saline edge.

The palate is modern Margaret River Chardonnay: precise, energetic and beautifully layered. Bright citrus and grapefruit drive the wine, supported by fine texture and subtle creamy complexity. A gentle struck-match savoury note adds intrigue while preserving purity of fruit. Saline, lip-smacking minerality carries the wine through a long, vibrant finish with exceptional persistence. Absolutely delicious!

Vino Masters Score: 97/100
★★★★★ A strikingly pure, coastal expression of Margaret River Chardonnay with power, precision and finesse.

There’s chardonnay and then there’s chardonnay like this. This is an electrifying white wine with fanfare and fireworks in abundance. It’s flinty and taut, aflame with grapefruit, white peach, citrus and apple flavour, and comes rippled with characters of woodsmoke, pebbles, cedar-spice, fennel and gun smoke. The flint notes here add plenty of drama and flare, but the tension and power of the fruit are what makes this wine so special. This is Margaret River Chardonnay at its extreme best.

Campbell Mattinson Score: 97/100

Gracefully opulent and immensely complex, the wine shows golden peach, grapefruit, fig, vanilla,

and cedar characters with a hint of savoury pastry. The palate has power as well as poise,

displaying richly textured mouthfeel backed by perfectly pitched acidity with a superbly long,

expansive finish. A sublime chardonnay with a majestic presence. At its best: 2027 to 2041
